We’ve launched a Class B AIS Transponder

But is it right for you ?

Obviously we are very excited about our ‘trade-up’ in Marine Electronics and adding a Class B Transponder to our range of products.

Will you need it & why ?

An AIS Receiver is very important..

If you’ve got an AIS receiver then you will be able to see boats in your area – know who is about and where they are going.

An AIS receiver is essential if you sail in an area with other boats (or close to the coastline)

But a transponder is even better..

But the next step up is to transmit your information.

  • So that other boats in your area can spot you.
  • And in addition (if you wanted) then friends and loved ones will be able to spot where you are, using one of the many online ship tracking sites.

.

How does it work & why is our different ?

As you might have noticed from the range of AIS receiver we do – we try to make installing & operating our equipment as easy as possible.

Our new Class B AIS transponder is no different.

It’s a high quality transponder that is quick & easy to install with some great new features. For example we’ve

  • Encased it in aluminium – with less interference from other equipment this opens up many more places on your boat you can install it
  • Widened the powder source options (from 9.6v to 36v) – so that it can be used on most boats
  • Added a SILENT mode (so you can stop broadcasting when it suits you)
  • Added easy connection options (so you can use a chart plotter or windows or linux laptop or tablets

.

Is it for you ?

A decision to upgrade to a transponder is very personal. Yes, there are rules & regulations if you need a transponder (this article explains why & when). But for most ‘leisure’ boat owners the choice is completely up to you.

Yes, an AIS receiver is great for safety or when you just want to know who is about.

But an transponder takes this to a complete new level.
