After launching the QK-AS01 gateway in March, we are proud to announce our new product: the QK-AS00, a NMEA 2000 to NMEA 0183 mini gateway. We created this mini gateway mainly for boat owners who already have a modern NMEA 2000 network installed on their vessel, but also want to keep and connect their older NMEA 0183 listener devices (e.g., chart plotters, multi-function displays, autopilots, VHF radios) to this network. The QK-AS00 is the same in size to the AS01, it can be easily installed behind instrument panels or in tight spaces and it is powered by the NMEA 2000 network.
The AS00 can also be a useful tool for the trained marine electronics technician, as it offers access to the boat’s NMEA 2000 network data in PCDIN format, by simply short connecting the GND and SET terminals.
This mini gateway does not require any additional setup before installation. The NMEA 0183 output uses the differential end NMEA 0183 – RS422 interface and also supports the single end protocol for NMEA 0183 – RS232 interface devices, which makes it compatible with a wide range of NMEA 0183 listener devices. The NMEA 0183 output’s baud rate is set to 38.4kbps, to minimize the data overflow caused by the baud rate difference between the high-speed NMEA2000 network and the NMEA0183 connection using a much lower baud rate. We can set the output baud rate to 4.8kbps if required, but please be aware, setting the output baud rate to 4.8kbps might result in higher volume of data overflow.
