Sailing on the water requires knowledge of your vessel’s GPS position, heading (direction the bow is pointed at in relation to the north pole), status, and speed, as well as knowledge of how all these things are affected by external forces.
Every vessel is affected by the speed and direction of wind. Those in the open ocean are particularly affected by currents and waves, therefore, reliable, real-time, and accurate data is critical for maintaining control of your vessel.
