I am trying to setup a QK-A2K032 with a Standard Horizon GX2200. I just want to be able to view AIS data on a tablet running Navionics Boat App.  I can connect the tablet to the QK-A2K032 and it shows up as a paired device.  On the QK-A2K032, the only light that ever flashes is the red power light.  I have tried hooking it up 4 different ways.  Two configurations were 38400 baud and the other two are 4800 baud.  Below are the wiring configurations I have tried.  What am I doing wrong?

      38400 Baud Connections

      GX2200                                             QK-A2K032
      BLUE – NMEA GPS Input (+) –    White – NMEA Out (+)
      Green – NMEA GPS Input (-) –     Blue – NMEA Out (-)
      Gray – NMEA DSC Output (+) –   Grey – NMEA In (+)
      Brown – NMEA DSC Output (-) – Black – NMEA In (-)
      Yellow – AIS Data Output (+) –
      White – AIS Data Output (-) –

      GX2200                                             QK-A2K032
      BLUE – NMEA GPS Input (+) –    White – NMEA Out (+)
Green – NMEA GPS Input (-) –     Brown – GND
      Gray – NMEA DSC Output (+) –   Grey – NMEA In (+)
      Brown – NMEA DSC Output (-) – Black – NMEA In (-)
      Yellow – AIS Data Output (+) –
      White – AIS Data Output (-) –

      4800 Baud Connections

      GX2200                                            QK-A2K032
      BLUE – NMEA GPS Input (+) –    White – NMEA Out (+)
      Green – NMEA GPS Input (-) –     Blue – NMEA Out (-)
      Gray – NMEA DSC Output (+) –
      Brown – NMEA DSC Output (-) –
      Yellow – AIS Data Output (+) –     Grey – NMEA In (+)
      White – AIS Data Output (-) –       Black – NMEA In (-)

      GX2200                                            QK-A2K032
      BLUE – NMEA GPS Input (+) –
      Green – NMEA GPS Input (-) –
      Gray – NMEA DSC Output (+) –
      Brown – NMEA DSC Output (-) –
      Yellow – AIS Data Output (+) –     Grey – NMEA In (+)
      White – AIS Data Output (-) –       Black – NMEA In (-)

      Thanks,

Hi John, Thank you for the detailed information you provided. Can you firstly check the firmware version of your A032 please since there are two variations of it. Thanks.

I’m away from the boat for a week.  I’ll have to get back to you.

I’m heading back tomorrow.  What firmware should it be and what wiring scheme should I use?

            The firmware is V2.10.210326

My slip neighbor just came over with a portable AIS receiver.  We hooked it up and nothing.  The power light blinks, but the green lights on the QK-A2K032 never blink.  That is the same that I am getting when the GX2200 is hooked up.  Also, my neighbor is a retired NASA engineer, so I feel pretty confident in his diagnostic skills compared to mine.

Hi John, We recreated this setup in our lab and observed that by connecting the two devices in the following way will resolve the communication issue between them:

                GX2200E                                              A032

(GRAY) NMEA OUT+       to            (BLACK) IN B –

(BROWN) NMEA OUT-   to            (GRAY) IN A +

Please be aware that both the GX2200E’s NMEA OUT baud rate and A032’s NMEA IN baud rate has to be set to 34800 bps.
